What a week!

Now I noticed a large, uneven patch in my back yard, the edges of which have what looks like white glue on it. In the inner sections that are 'older it has dried and there are black dusty flecks evenly spaced along the edges of the grass, making it appear almost feathery. The blades themselves are also darker green than surrounding grass now.

A good soaking of Garrett juice did nothing overnight. What could this be caused by :?: And how to rectify??

Last week in one of my flower beds I had this viscous, vanilla pudding looking substance that was oozing out of a spot through the compost and mulch top layers. Next day it had spread to the size of a football! I scraped it off hoping that'd do the trick. The next day it was back and had transformed into a puffy brown, yet still slimey texture. I dug it up, mixed in some cornmeal and it never returned.

So one of two things happened. It was a fungus of some sort and the cornmeal, along with physical removal, nipped it in the bud. I've never seen any fungus growths that looked like it or had that pudding-like consistency, but then again I'm not very up on fungi. Or.. the removal alone fixed it on that second go at it. I'd try cornmeal and see how that does. If it seems to be spreading I suppose removal of the affected turf can be a last ditch resort.

The stuff in your photos is white where my stuff was a definitive yellow. Mine was close to some liriope that lines the bed, but not actually on any vegitation. If it were me I'd give it a good dose of cormeal jucie tomorrow. Have you tried seeing if there's anything amiss at the roots of this patch? Is it any easier to pull up than healthy turf? Is this a low spot where water collects more than normal? Does the area get much sun?

Might try calling Miller Grass (Plano Rd. and LBJ) a call. They're usually really helpful with any grass questions I've ever thrown at em. Should be open tomorrow.

Let us know!
