My husband and I are working on the "town" area of our garden railroad. We want a small sized gravel or a dark sand as a base for our town ( our grass keeps growing runners over our railroad tracks...so we want something that will make managing the grass easier). Does anyone have any suggestions on where to buy product like this in bulk? Will travel anywhere in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Thanks!

You can buy various types of sand, pea gravel, and decomposed granite in bulk at AAA Nursery Sand and Stone, 10550 Miller Road in Dallas. Phone number is 214-342-0992. You might want to give them a call to see what they are currently stocking. I haven't been out there in a while.

Texas greensand is greenish and darkish. How about that?

Expanded shale has a great look to it as well! It is a grey color mostly from what I remember seeing at North Haven Gardens.

How about decomposed granite? With some mulch underneath it ought to work beautifully. Check with Living Earth Techology locations to find the one nearest you and ask prices. They can deliver but it's better if you have a truck!
