Post subject:  Drought-tolerant trees

One thing about this drought phase is that you see what trees are tough enough to endure it. As far my eyes have seen, the native trees that have no signs of wilting of leaves and look the same 4 months ago are as follows:

native junipers(ash junipers and eastern redcedars)
post oaks
live oaks
blackjack oaks
bur oaks
shumard and Texas red oaks
chinkapin oaks
lacey oaks
pecans

And most of the trees I mentioned are around northwest of Ft Worth( Lake Worth/Azle) old country area.

None of my trees have suffered and I've watered far less than we're allowed to. Even my Birch is doing fine, minimal leaf loss.

I've lost pretty much all my apples this year though. Between not having enough water to water them well and the birds in their desperation for moisture pecking them all, they're ruined.

These trees are considered drought tolerant after two years of regular care.

Large Shade Trees
Bur Oak, Cedar Elm, Chinquapin Oak (needs excellent drainage), Live Oak, Pecan and Shumard Red Oak.

Medium Shade Trees
Afgan Pine, Chinese Pistache, Eastern Red Cedar, Lacebark Elm, Lacey Oak, Texas Ash, Texas Red Oak, and Vasey Oak.

Small Shade Trees
Crape Myrtle, Deciduous Holly, Desert Willow, Eve's Necklace, Prairie Flame Sumac, Mexican Buckeye, Mexican Plum, Smoke Tree, Texas Redbud, and Yaupon Holly.
