Good afternoon to you all.

This isn't really an "organic" issue as much as it is a plea for guidance.

The "ground crew" at the apartment complex where I live came through on Thursday to trim the large hedge in front of our apartment and managed to stomp down my carefully tended Lady Ferns. I planted them 5 years ago around the birdbath I installed and they are thriving...or WERE until these so called "landscapers" came through. This must be a new crew because every year the hedges are trimmed and this is the first time any damage has been done to the plants I've put in. They were in a raised bed, clearly marked off by landscape ties and not just planted on the lawn where I could see this mistake being made. :x

My question is, should I cut back the damaged ferns and hope they come back next year? Or should I just leave them alone?

I'm in SE Pennsylvania, 20+ NW of Philadelphia...I'm not sure what "zone" that is, if that helps with the question.

Many thanks for letting me "vent" my wrath. Thank you, also, for your fern advice.

Yours in "FROND-ship" (sorry, I couldn't resist... )

You probably already have the answer to this, since it was a week ago that you posted your message.

When we damage plants, yes it happens...especially with new employees! We leave them for a week, and by then, when the crew goes back for service, we hand prune off the fronds that are turning brown. Those that don't are still gaining nutrients and will return on their own. I'd leave those alone and baby them along.
