A beautiful Red-tailed Hawk just landed in my backyard, about 25 feet away. Full adult plumage. Immature Red-tailed Hawks have a banded tail, not the brick red of the adult.

A friend just sent me a link to this photo.

We seem to be flush with hawks in our area. They can be readily spotted sitting high above the landscape atop the light posts. They are magnificent looking. As the natural wooded areas are cleared for building homes I expect to see their numbers dwindling.

Red-tailed Populations increase in Texas during the winter months. Some stay and nest, many head north in the spring. There have been two sailing around behind my home, they may be looking for a nest location.
