Honda announces its intent to build a solar cell factory for mass producing non-silicon based solar cells beginning in 2007. Honda will be competing with major solar cell manufacturers such as Kyocera Corp., Sharp Corp., and Mitsubishi Electric Corp. With even the US Department of Energy finally waking to the reality of sustained oil prices over $50/barrel, the Japanese apparently aren't waiting to move to economies of scale. As for the U.S., Winston Churchill reaches from the grave to remind us: "You can always count on Americans to do the right thing - after they've tried everything else."
