Post subject:  When to apply Garrett Juice and beneficial nematodes?

I'm trying to keep my cat free of fleas organically. I have been feeding her a little DE mixed in her food and dusting with DE around the perimeter of the house where she plays when she goes out. I think it is helping but I believe I did see a flea on her the other day. What else can I do? Howard's flea information says to use beneficial nematodes and spray the yard regularly with Garrett Juice. The nuseries around her that sell beneficial nem's said this is the wrong time of year to apply them--that I should wait till spring. Does the same go for the Garrett Juice? Is it just a waste of effort to start spraying now to try to control fleas?

I do not know what gardening centers are telling you this, but these can be applied now. Beneficial nematodes are in healthy soils year 'round. I would not pour a batch out during freezing weather, but we are not there yet! It is best not to apply them when it is real hot. If outside temperature is above 86 degrees, apply in the evening. Garrett Juice is best applied in the morning. It is especially good to apply when humidity is high, even during a light mist as the "pores" of leaves are more open at this time.
