Post subject:  Help with Roses Please

Hello,
Does anyone know how to eliminate Japanese beetles on Rose bushes? They are eating up the roses and do not want to use pesticides. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks for any help,
Greg

Where are you located? I didn't think we had those pests in Texas.

I agree with sandih. Where do you live? And Japanese beetles are a spring time bug, not fall.

Still you obviously have something going on. I would be sure to have plenty of compost under the roses but also add plenty of ground corn meal. Any variety will do. I would scatter 1-2 handfuls under each rose. Then on the foliage and stems I would spray an equal parts mixture of milk, molasses, and baby shampoo every 2 weeks. The idea with that is to make the plant as healthy as possible on the outside. There is a theory that insects home in on unhealthy plants because they look different. By feeding the microbes on the outside of the plant, perhaps the plant will look less appealing.
