Post subject:  Orange Cysalis and Worm like Grub

While weeding I found a couple of orange crysalis and nearby a huge 3" long grub type creature. The body had the appearance of a worm but the features of a grub. Has anyone every seen this before? Is the crysalis related to this grublike creature? Is this a beneficial or a seek and destroy? The crysalis was about an inch long and looked plastic - it was very strange. I appreciate your input. Thanks, Debbi

Both the grub and crysalis were buried. I don't have a photo but if I find another one will take one. The crysalis actually had movement in the end of it like a worm sucking type. There was also ribbing. I even wondered if it was a worm egg but it doesn't look like any worm egg I've seen and then that grub like fleshy creature was very strange. I found one of the crysalis in a pile of compost I purchased last year and it's been overwintering. The others were in the back yard.

If it was in the ground, it was a moth crysalis. I'd have to see the other grub to know. You might want to do an internet search on grubs to see pics which might help you identify it as a june beetle grub or something else. Really large white grubs can be the green june beetle which are larger than the pesky june bugs we all know.
