We have about 800' of highway frontage bound by a 6-wire barbed fence in otherwise good condition. It is being overcome by catbriars & other weeds.

I'd be happy to sterilize about a foot on either side of the fence as I discovered clearing this fence w/ a brush cutter just isn't practical. Would a strong vinegar solution applied during a high-sun summer day absolutely kill this stuff???

Thanks!

I know 20% vinegar is not exactly organic
but it will not hurt your land and it is
stronger for those tough bushes and
trees that get in fence lines. A pump
up sprayer should do the trick, but be
sure to add soap so that the mixture
will stay on the plants for a longer
time. Also don'r over look the virtues
of a good chain saw. You are correct -
pick a hot day with chance of rain.

Thanks, Robert!

I did just purchase a new Stihl chainsaw. A year ago, I used a little Poulan & a "John Deere" brush cutter to clear it. Seems all I did was encourage the regrowth.

I need an action item with a little more staying power than a couple of months. Good reminder on the soap! Why a "good chance of rain" day? I'd have thought I'd wanted the harshest growth scenario (hot/dry) to apply my potion.

Can you tie a goat or two to the fence?

I should have said hot and dry.
