Post subject:  Red potatoes turning yellow

This is the first year I have gone totally organic for my yard and garden. My red potato leaves on just 3 plants are turning yellow, the other plants are doing fine, it doesn't look like anything is eating on them. I have been useing compost tea soil drench and garrett juice every two weeks(Seems to really give them a perk). I have also mulched the potatoes with Alfalfa hay on 2/3 of my potato plants per Howard's suggestion. The yellowing is happening on a plant that is not mulched and one that is, so I don't think thats the problem either. I plant potatoes every year and don't ever remember this happening. (BTW-I rotate crops every year). Does anybody know what might be happening to them? I just don't want this to spread. Thanks.

Potatoes love lots of natural high carboneous mulches (like leaves, hay, sawdust, or even shredded paper), lots of available potassium and phosphorus, but not much soluble nitrogen.

Therefore I put lots of rich compost under my taters on the ground, or in a trench, then cover the taters with over 6-12" of mulch. I use corn meal and sulfur in the holes in order to reduce fungal diseases, plus the corn adds more P and K. I also believe lots of weekly doses of sugary teas is essential in order to get more microbial activity in the roots, in order to reduce the available N, and increases the available P and K, to the plants. Seaweed teas are great potassium food and microbial stimulators too.
