Post subject:  sleepy wisteria?

My husband's grand-mother purchased two wisteria vines 3 years ago and they were supposedly 2 yrs. old at that time. The nursery worker told her that the vines would bloom when they were 3 years old. After being in the ground for 3 years now they have yet to bloom. They get full sun and are lush and beautiful. What could be the problem as to why they are not blooming? She says she just wants to cut them down but I hate to see her do that if the problem could be corrected! Someone please help! Thanks!

Hi Wallerranch,
It can take a wisteria up to 5 or 7 years when transplanted before blooming. Also, too much fertilizer with nitrogen will cause lots of green growth at the expense of blooms. Take a look at this site for all kinds of helpful info on wisteria.

I am just now checking on my post a month later. I forgot all about it! Thanks Newt, I'll be sure and tell my husband's grandmother.
