I have some empty pots located outdoors. They need plants. These plants need to be some sorts of species that will survive benign neglect.

Mainly they will need to be able to withstand irregular watering. Ideally some that could live off of whatever rain they might get.

Location is Texas: 32 degrees North Latitude, outdoors, full sun. (Although, partial/afternoon shade is a possibility . . . if the pots were moved.)

Does anyone have any suggestions? Would Junipers be a thought? I used to have Junipers around the place. ...but they all died of benign neglect. :|

(Kinda looking for plant it and forget it  )

(edit --- For NW: The pots are 14-18 inches wide and of varying depths. Shortest one is 5 inches or so deepest is about a foot deep.)

Perhaps you should fill those pots (you don't say how large - that makes a difference) with interesting stones and pebbles? You can kill anything in a pot in Dallas and along that latitude.

Native plants would be your best bet. Succulents, agaves etc.. However, when you plant something in the ground and rarely water it, it's very different thean in a pot. Natives have very deep roots in order to find water. In a pot, not only do the soil temps get hotter, but the roots have no where to go and there's very little soil volume to hang on to the moisture you do give it.

If you can't give them any more attention than you've indicated, I would skip it...for the plant's sake.
