Post subject:  Question about applying BN

I have one of those siphon contraptions where you attach it to a faucet and run a small rubber hose into a bucket of whatever you want to apply through your garden hose. Is it feasible to use this to apply my beneficial nematodes? Has anyone else done this? Thanks for all replies.

Yes... I do it all the time.

If there is a screen on the end of that hose, remove that plug. Simply mix the nematode mix into your bucket as per instructions and then fill the hose-end sprayer, using the filter provided w/ the nematode mix. Set the sprayer to the max ounces per gallon and spray your yard. When the jar empties, refill it and continue... till you are done!

Do y'all have a place on the web where I can see what you're referring to? I've been looking for one of these. Thanks! Bill

Look at

http://www.snow-pond.com/WaterSavers/watersavers.html

It's now called the Siphonject. Used to be called the Siphonex.

I'm confused. It seems like this Siphonject would take the place of a hose-end sprayer. Why are they used together? I am assuming that by hose-end sprayer you mean a thing that has a jar on it where you put the liquid that you want to mix with the water spray, like the Ortho sprayer. Could someone please explain how this works?

Hi ziggy,
I think there is some confusion here.

You would use one or the other but not both. Let's say you have an acre to spray something on. If you use the hose end sprayer you have to stop and refill it 50 times. If you use the siphonject, you can stick the rubber hose into a 55-gallon drum of compost tea (for example) and spray all day long.

For reference, the dilution rate on the siphonject is 18 gallons of water to 1 gallon of product.

Thanks for the info. On a similar subject, I have seen Howard use a wand type hand sprayer on TV. It's the style where he puts the hose in a 5 gallon bucket and pumps the sprayer. Is anyone familiar with this and/or know where to buy one? Thanks again, Bill

Sounds like a Hudson trombone sprayer. Just bought one at Rhodes last week. I'd imagine that you can find them at quite a number of places in the area. Failing that you can buy them from internet retailers too.
