Post subject:  Ants in the lawn

Did I hear the Dirt Doctor say on one of his Sunday morning programs, on maybe on this forum to not kill the ants in the lawn because they eat termites? I have stopped killing them and just mowing over their mounds when I mow the grass. I seem to have less mounds and they are not as big. By the way I live in the country on 1.25 acres, so there is room for all the creatures to co-exist. The only creatures I don't like are the grasshoppers. They don't seem to be eating the garden this year. Must be all the compost, that I applied prior to tilling and all the cut grass I use for top dressing. the plants sure are doing good since the rain stopped.

He might have been referring to fire ants, not regular sweet ants or any of the other varieties. Fire ants seem to overrun fleas, ticks, chiggers, and termites.

Thanks Dave for the reply. If I find that they are fire ants, I will restart the drench program.
