I am trying to meet a new challenge. We moved in with my 97 year old mom. Not much other than mowing by a hired person to mow has been done. There are many weeds.
My approach was to till and use dethacher to drag out all the stuff. If there was a weed she had it in this yard, 100 different types.
One of the big problems is the stickers, grass burrs. I understand that the unattention to the yard has caused much.
Mom is under the impression that just pulling the stickers them selves hinders growth. I on the other hand felt that the stickers do not grow more stickers but there probably are seeds, and the weeds themselves do the growing.
Can someone tell me if the stickers them selves make more stickers. I will do some furteizing of the yard and some pre stuff in the fall but wondered about the stickers themselves growing more.
thanks Al in Whitney, TX you can post here and if you wish to email I am photobug98@hotmail.com.

Hey I was thinking in the mean time while you are getting your grass to thicken out the stickers, you could take a sod roller (or something to that effect) and wrap it in a quilt or cloth that you were going to throw away and roll over the sticker areas to get rid of the nuisance for the time being.

I used to have stickers. I used carpet remnants (available from carpet installers) to soak up the stickers first. Then I fertilized and watered. Stickers are a sign that the soil is infertile. Once you start normal care for it, they go away by themselves.
