The direction on my seed packet says to plant in flats 6-8 weeks early. What does that mean?

What specifically are you planting and where are you located? It should say something like 6 weeks before (or after) the average last frost date. You do not have to put seeds in flats; you can use seed pods or shallow pots that you may already have, if you sanitize them first. But tell me what it is and where you are so I can tell you when it should be started.
