Please advise: On Tuesday a well-meaning employee of a tree care company sprayed the product Forti-F4 (for spider mite control) on some arborvitae just a foot away from my herb and lettuce garden...without protecting it with a tarp of any kind.

I assume the herbs and lettuces are now for visual pleasure only, and not to be eaten.

What would you do with the soil: rebuild it somehow (and how), or remove and replace it?

Along with any treatment recommended here, I hope you'll also call that company and tell them what they did. And offer an organic method for treating the spider mites (see the answer in your other post).
