I need to buy some chickens close to the Commerce/Ladonia area. Does anyone have any ideas? I would like some ideas on the best layers and what helps promote the egg laying. They will be free range chickens

Thanks for the continued help that we have gotten off of this site

Call Lynn Madgeson at Good Earth Organic Farm. http://www.goodearthorganicfarm.com/chickens.htm
She is very knowledgeable, fair price and the best organic raised stock around. They are North of Greenville in Celeste, TX.

Appreciate the info and will call today. Any other info or suggestions on chickens will be appreciated. How winter tolerant are the birds?

Thanks. That is a lot of good info. I am going to check out that place north of greenville as it is close to home and they also have other birds and goats for sale. Thanks for your time.

Rick

I had never even thought of goats until you gave me that last site to look at. What are your goats and how tall do they stand. We have 47 acres now that is 4 strand barbwire with 2 new ponds. Would the goats stay in this? Also how many do you have. Thanks

If you would rather call to talk about them.

We always order our chickens from Ideal Poultry Breeding Farms in Cameron, Tx. Phone 254-697-6677, or look on the internet. We ordered the color posters they sell with photos of all the various breeds of chickens, ducks, geese, peafowl, banties, pheasants, turkeys, guineas, quail, and probably more I've forgotten. That was very helpful in deciding on what we wanted. The birds have always arrived in perfect condition with no dead ones. Usually we get them by U.S. mail, but drove to Cameron and picked them up once. Our favorite way to order is the mixed heavy breed special. That way, you get a variety of pretty breeds, and we prefer the brown egg layers. These are baby chicks, by the way, but there is time to start them this fall if you order soon.

Hope this is helpful.
