 Post subject: Bald cypress "elbows"

I've heard (or read) that you can cut off elbows on Bald Cypress trees,
without damaging the tree. My bald cypress is has an 8-9" trunk and about 15 elbows.
Anybody heard of this?

to have a level lawn, to be able to mow the grass under the tree with a lawnmower, and for the the looks.
