I am trying to figure out what this strange, very resillent fungus growing in my garden is. I have a pool and along where the deck of the pool drops off and the garden begins this fungus keeps appearing day after day. It only grows along the pool deck edging and when kicked or whatever turns to a ash and dissipates. I have heard of the cigarette ash like fungus growing on lawns, but this looks like blobs of funky growth. The garden is mulched with pine bark if this helps.

The fungus doesn't seem to hurt anything, but is very unattractive and keeps coming back time and time again. Any help getting rid of this garden snot would be great.

Thanx!

Fungus usually grows where there is plenty of moisture and rotting material (the pine bark ? ). Your pool is supplying the moisture is my guess although at this time of year there is plenty of moisture everywhere. Try cedar mulch and the info below to control/eliminate the problem.
