Hi everyone,

For the last year or so I have been getting mushrooms growing in a 6' x 6' area in my bermuda lawn. They start in the spring and pop up overnight about once every 2 to 3 weeks during the spring and summer and into fall. I take a rake and pull them up as best I can, but would prefer to be proactive in eliminating them altogether. I like mushrooms in my salad but prefer to get 'em at Tom Thumb. Does anyone have an organic solution?

Thanks!

AntBee

The fact you are getting them indicates two things:
1) there is more moisture in that area of the lawn... is it lower, perhaps?
2) you have an incredibly healthy lawn with lots of organic matter/nutrients and it is nothing to be concerned with. Mushrooms only grow in... well, we won't go there...

Break them up and relax. But, you simply leave the spores in the soil for re-growth that way, so pick and compost them if it is really bothering you.

You may have something under the soil that is promoting the mushroom growth. The root system from a decaying tree comes to mind. If this is the case, it could create a slightly sunken moist area. All this would make mushrooms happy. If you have to get rid of them, spray with sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) or potassium bicarbonate solution. CK the info below:
