Ok.....I live in the Willow Bend area of Plano....and we are being over-taken by ANTS! All the Pest Control people say they are called "Crazy Ants", and there is nothing you can do about them, but treat them from time to time. They are a nuisance for sure.

Does anyone know what will kill these ants for good! Both inside and outside the house? Perhaps something friendly to the plants as well? Not to mention freindly to people inside?

If you want to spot-treat the mounds in the yard use Gardenville's Anit-fuego soil conditioner, it is a mixture of orange oil and molasses and kills them on contact. And as the name implies, your plants will like it :)

I don't know about inside, in Austin there is an organic pest control company so I bet there is one in the Plano/Dallas area as well.

Oh yeah, I have also used the Greenlight fire ant bait from Wal-mart. It is certified for organic farming.

There is a big ant mound inside my walls, under the bathtub drain. Does anyone have suggestions on killing the ants without using something with poisonous fumes or liquid? I've tried DE, but it didn't seem to help.

I don't know how truly environmental this stuff is, or if it will take care of your Crazy Ants. I came across it trying to see what options there were for dealing with some carpenter ants that just recently appeared....

I had the same thing. Turned out ants were the least of my problems. I have since been told that, when ants build like that in your walls, that you also have termites...and boy did I have tarmites...the only thing holding up one wall was the ant mound.

Sorry to say I am so new at this organic thing that I have no idea what to use other then DE. But I do suggest you have a termite inspection.

I don't know "crazy ants", but when I have any ants inside (usually 1 or 2 at a time in the kitchen), I wiped down the counter surfaces with either vinegar/water or orange oil/water. That is normally all that is required.

Outside I treat the fire ant beds with a commercially available soil drench. I use Rohde's Green Sense, as you read below Gardenville also has a product.
