This is our first year to attempt a garden, and we are following all the advice that we can in Dr. Garret's vegetable garden book. Things are starting very slowly. Our peas were one of the first plants to emerge and were growing strong, creeping up the wire cage provided. The first flower and pod sprouted, but then the lower leaves and vines began to turn yellow or brown and appear to die. The top of the plants still seem fine. Any suggestions?

I'm thinking it was because of all the rain. Make sure you've got good drainage and let it get fairly dry before you water it. I'd just keep an eye on it for a few days and look for other signs of pests or diseases.
