I have just built a house in north Ft. Worth and my yard consists mainly of dirt and some weeds. I didn't want to seed the yard over the summer because of the heat. When is the best time of the year to seed the yard and should I prep the soil...if so how. My experience with lawns include starting a lawn mower so any information would be appreciated.

What kind of grass do you want?

Cool season grasses like Kentucky bluegrass and fescues get seeded now. Hot season grass (bermuda) gets seeded in late June. St Augustine can be sodded, not seeded, just about any time when it's warm enough to grow.

While you're thinking about that, read the FAQ at the top of this forum or at the top of the Lawns forum.
