Join the Dirt Doctor for Live Green Expo'08
Saturday, April 12, 2008
9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Plano Centre

The Live Green Expo, presented by the City of Plano, is an event designed to empower North Texans to live a greener, cleaner lifestyle. The event is free and will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 12 at Plano Centre. Other cities involved in promoting and supporting this year’s event include Allen, Dallas, Denton, Frisco and Irving.

The Expo will feature exhibits, presentations, live entertainment, children’s activities, hands-on demonstrations and family-friendly prizes designed to enjoy the outdoors, save money on energy, conserve water and impact the environment in a positive way.

Exhibitors at the Expo will provide information and resources for water conservation, household products geared to improve indoor air quality, residential energy-efficiency, non-toxic yard and garden practices, native Texas and adapted landscaping, hybrid vehicles, green building and remodeling, recycling, and eco-friendly recreation and travel.

Presentations addressing green topics will be held throughout the day, in addition to a special seminar with featured speaker, Eric Larsen. A modern-day explorer, Larsen’s life defines the word “adventure.” A polar explorer, dog musher, adventure racer and educator, he has spent the past 12 years traveling in some of the most remote and wild places left on earth.

The Rhythm and Blooms stage will feature live entertainment from 9 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. including a featured performance by the Bill Tillman Band. Other special entertainment includes, Radio Disney, Eddie Coker, Victor Andrada, Sounds Like Justice and an Eco-Fashion Show.

Children’s activities will be held in the Main Exhibit Hall and outdoors. From art projects using recycled material to baking s’mores in a solar powered oven, children will enjoy a spectrum of free activities and experience green living that is both educational and exciting. In partnership with the Art Centre of Plano, new art and drama activities will be available this year, along with an Eco-Shopping Game, Children’s Bicycle Course, plus interactive fun with a City of Plano recycling truck and DART bus.

Hands-on demonstrations will included a hybrid vehicle Ride and Drive where participants can test drive their favorite models and check out these unique vehicles under the hood. There will be wind turbines, solar panel displays, a compost fair, native plant sale, a Recycle Alley and opportunities to win prizes and receive gifts of eco-friendly products. Attendees can participate in a free paper shredding event and safely dispose of personal documents, change-a-light pledge and a bag exchange where they can simply trade used plastic shopping bags for a reusable bag.

It’s easy living green and it’s simply the right thing to do. Live green and learn how at the Live Green Expo – Empowering North Texans. Visit http://www.livegreenexpo.net/ for more information about this free family event.
