Jim Sargent and Vickie Anderson built the first Zero-Energy Home in North Texas. It is a gold mine of energy efficiency and passive/active solar resulting in a home that produces as much (or more) energy than it uses.

A free tour of that home is scheduled for Saturday, November 11, from noon until 4 pm at 5357 Beacon Hill Dr in Frisco. Watch Jim Sargent tell about the various energy-saving or producing features in this ground-breaking residence, then take your time checking out the home's energy, health, and sustainability attributes.

Some of those attributes are:

Durisol block construction
Ventilated radiant barrier roof system
Air-infiltration control
Solar photovoltaic panels
Spray foam insulation
Rainwater catchment
Native landscaping
Passive solar design
A light exterior and color scheme
Accurately-sized overhangs
Enhanced natural ventilation
Permanent metal air-conditioning ducts
Natural lighting
Air-sealed attic
Tight construction
Quality indoor air
Outdoor kitchen
Year-round screen porch
Tankless water heater
Energy Star appliances/lights
Variable speed air handlers
Three zone HVAC
And more...

Jim Sargent started building houses in the 70s when the nation was in an energy crisis--a crisis that sparked his interest in creating energy-efficient homes. With study, innovation, and careful monitoring of his customer's energy bills, he honed his skills in this arena.

Vickie Anderson and Jim Sargent partnered in 2003 to become AndersonSargent Custom Builder, L.P. Together with Bailey + Pfeiffer Architects, they built this award-winning residence.

The team of Sargent and Anderson has another first coming up. They will develop and build the first true ecovillage in north Texas on 75 acres--with more DFW ecovillage locations planned for the future.

Come at 4 pm to learn what these forward-thinking builders have planned for their first ecovillage. The ecovillage presentation (which will only be given at 4 pm) will be followed by a tour of the home and complimentary snacks.

Questions? leave a 24/7 message at 972 988-8687, ext 3109, and your call will be returned ASAP.

I'll see you there and try to call your cell after the show. Maybe I will call into the show Sat morning and we can mention it on the air.
