I live in West Houston near Katy...

The leaves on my Fan-Tex Ash looked great a few weeks ago... but now they are beginning to turn brown in places (not one leaf is completely brown). It looks as though they have been burned by the wind, but this tree is supposed to hold up well in windy conditions.

Anyone know what I can do to get the leaves back to the green I had a few weeks ago? Thank you.

How long have you had this tree and is it small or pretty much mature?

Have you checked for critters?

What sort of feeding does it receive?

If it were mine I'd folier feed it with some garlic/pepper tea in the mix to make sure no one's chewing it. Follow with the sick tree treatment and you should see an improvement.

The tree is about 15 feet tall and we planted it a year almost two years ago. It is approximately 7-8 feet wide and looks pretty good (except for the recent change in leaf color).

In the evenings, I can see long-legged critters flying around it... I am unsure if they are the good ones or the bad ones.

A year ago, it received a little Miracle Grow (I know I am a bad guy... at the time, I thought I was doing the right thing for it) but nothing recently. Just water... a good soaking about 2 days out of the week.

I will try to locate some info explaining how to folier feed it (I haven't a clue what that is) and follow the sick tree treatment you mentioned.

For the record, the wife and I are pursuing more organic items for the yard (presently and in the future). We are excited about trying several things we have picked up from your website and message boards.

I sincerely appreciate your assistance.

Welcome to the organic forum. Sounds like you are on the right track. If you have any questions, please feel free to post and we will try to find an answer for you. as for folair feeding, or compost tea as I call it. my receipe is:

To make my compost tea I take a pair of old panty hose, that my wife has donated and cut off one leg. I stuff it with compost, from the bin, dried molasses, and fresh sea weed. I tie the top and put it in a 5 gallon bucket of water for three days. After the brewing time is up, I take the sock out and tie it up to the compost bin to dry. About 30 - 45 minutes prior to using, I put in my pump to add air to the mixture. When the time is up, I strain it while adding to the pump up sprayer. I fill the jug about half full and the remainder with water. I walk around the yard spraying the trees, flowers and the garden plants. Spray both the top and bottom of the leaves as well as the ground around the plants. It is amazing how much better the plants, flowers and trees do after each application. Sometimes I will apply the tea twice a week.
I don't add manure to my compost because I have not located a source to acquire it yet.

Your garden, plants and trees with thank you for the delicious treat.

Read the info in this post:

That should giveyou a good solid basis on taking care of them.

Like Gar said-

Foliar (sorry mis-spelled first time... tired brain) feeding will do wonders.
